Cohort of 29,553 women in Texas with a diagnosis of pre-term labor.

Triage patterns and the utilization of the fFN and trans-vaginal ultrasound (TVU) modalities were evaluated.
Key Findings

Only 14% of the women in the cohort had a record of receiving fFN testing.

Patients who received testing

Had gestation lengths 9.4 days longer (24.6 vs 15.2 days) than those without fFN testing.

Had significantly more clinical risk factors.

Were less likely to deliver during the initial hospital stay.

Deliver 3 or more days after the hospital or emergency room encounter.

Key Findings

Only 12% utilization of fFN to triage pre-term labor.

76% of women were discharged. Of those discharged, 1 in 5 (20%) went on to deliver within 3 days.
